Inflating double layered latex items.
There’s one valve we use for all our inflatable items. This is shown below.
This is a standard bicycle valve known as a ‘woods/dunlop’ valve, and as such you can either use a standard bicycle pump to inflate it, or you can unscrew the top parts and use any inflator that’ll fit a standard car valve. For smaller items a standard bicycle pump will do, however with larger items this can become tiresome, so we recommend using a high-volume low-pressure pump used for inflating pool toys, you may need an adapter pipe to do this, and if you get a pipe with 7mm internal diameter it will work.
There are a couple of things you should note:
- Do not inflate by mouth, as it will introduce moisture between the layers.
- High pressure air is dangerous and may rupture the item if used incorrectly.
- We do not recommend you use high pressure air from an air compressor or tank. If you do use high pressure air we cannot be held responsible for any injury that may be caused.
- These items are not flotation devices and use in a pool or the sea can be dangerous if unsupervised.
You can stop the air coming out be closing the valve with either a standard car dust cap (may still leak air slightly if too short), or the original valve core, shown below in an exploded view.
